As Im sure all of you Resident Evil fans are well aware that Paul Anderson's vision of Biohazard brought to the big screen was not the first idea to surface. Ill never forget the day I opened my copy of Resident Evil 2 Dual Shock, and on the back of the instruction manual was a contest form by which you could register for the opportunity to be a zombie in George A. Romero's Resident Evil movie. My young mind, hungry for gore, jumped for joy at the idea that the father of the modern zombie would be bringing my, at the time, favorite videogame series of all time to life.
Whether you love or hate Anderson's depiction of series, you cant help but wonder what it couldve been with Romero at the helm. Anyone who has read the script knows that it wasnt exactly 100% loyal to the videogames plot, but the overall premise remained, and the characters were there. Despite some questionable decisions, like making Chris Redfield a Native American civilian, my mouth still waters like one of the undead at a flesh buffet whenever I think about what might have been. And I still cringe in disgust when I look upon the piece of Hollywood, mainstream, Gen-X, action horror garbage that we got in its stead.
