Dawn of the Dead (Romero VS Remake)
Among horror/zombie film fans, there is much debate as to which is better, Romero's Dawn of the Dead (best zombie film ever in my opinion) or the 2004 remake.
I personally hated the remake. For one thing, I just couldnt accept the idea of running zombies. I guess that theres really no reason why a zombie wouldnt be able to run, especially if it underwent the transformation very recently. But over time, the body would undergo physical break down, and the muscle tissues would be severely weakened, and wouldnt function properly. Regardless of any logic, when I think of zombie, I imagine a slow moving, moaning, hungry creature with only the most basic of motor skills. I think everyone, even if you like the remake, can agree that the zombie baby scene was the dumbest horror movie moment in history.
The original was a b-movie, with a fairly low budget, but in my experience this is the best thing for horror films. When special effects get to fancy, realism is sacrificed for visual "wow". Same principle applies to action films. And the fact is, any true horror fan knows that the gore is what counts. And as morbid as it may sound, if we're watching a movie for gore, we want it to look as realistic as possible. I think the oldskool methods of creating gore are much better for this.
Im a Romero fan to the end, so I dont deny that my opinion is biased. But as a horror fan, and especially as a zombie fan, I really cant see the slightest appeal in the remake.
