Barry's Betrayal
Weskers manipulation of STARS member Barry Burton was possibly the most dangerous aspect of the mansion incident. Without Barry misleading Jill, and even assisting in the destruction of evidence against Umbrella, the team may have been able to get a grasp on the actual nature of the situation much sooner. If Barry had made them aware of Wesker, they certainly couldve foiled his plans before the Tyrant was unleashed, Rebecca might not have been shot, etc...We know that Wesker had injected himself with his virus before they actually entered the mansion, so either way, hed have still managed to achieve his near immortality. I think that even if the STARS members had him surrounded hopelessly, he probably wouldve fought them to the point of them dispatching him themselves, therefore the virus still wouldve kicked in, he still wouldve succeeded in faking his death.
Barrys actions were obviously in the best interest of his family, as Wesker had him fooled into believing they were under his survailence, and would be killed if Wesker didnt check in. I dont think any of us can say that we wouldnt have done the same thing in that situation.
What puzzles me is this. When exactly did Wesker confront Barry? Was it Wesker that came to Barry at all? Or did Barry stumble upon Weskers secret, only for Wesker to manipulate him into keeping his mouth shut?
If we go by Chris' chapter, in which Barry mysteriously disappears at the beginning, one might think that Wesker has already secured Barry before they entered the mansion. But I dont think that can be counted as canon anyway. As we know, Barry survived, and its my belief that with Chris' opening FMV, its assumed that was killed. The safe bet is that all four STARS members made it into the mansion, and split up afterwards. But then what happens?
We see Barry examining the bloodstain in the dining room, and shortly after, he and Jill part ways. The next time we see him, Barry rescues Jill from the the shotgun room, and immediately afterwards, his shady behavior becomes apparent.
So we are left with two possibilities. Either Wesker already had Barry playing into his hand before they actually entered the mansion, or Wesker confronted Barry between the time of examining the dining room (and encountering Kenneths killer), and the time of the "Jill Sandwich" conversation.
